Full View Doors Are Heavy, and That Changes Everything

A glass and aluminum door weighs far more than the steel door it usually replaces. Every part of the system has to be sized for that weight, and when it is not, the problems all show up at once.

Springs have to be wound for the real weight of the door, not the weight of a typical door that size. The opener has to have the pull to move it. The track and the rollers carry more load, so cheap rollers fail fast.

These doors are also the ones where a single damaged panel is most obvious, because you are looking through the door rather than at it. We replace individual glass panels rather than whole sections wherever the frame allows.

A cracked pane or a failed seal in an insulated unit. We re-glaze the affected panel instead of replacing the section.

Springs wound for the wrong weight

Heavier door, faster wear. Sealed bearing rollers are not optional on these.

Frame finish

Sun is hard on finishes. Powder coat holds up better than anodizing on a west facing door here.

Can you replace one glass panel instead of the whole door?

Almost always. Full view doors are built so individual panes can be changed. That is a fraction of the cost of a section.

Are full view glass doors practical in Las Vegas heat?

They can be, with the right glass. Insulated and tinted units cut a lot of the heat and the glare. Clear single pane glass on a west facing garage will cook the space, and we will tell you that before you buy.

My full view door feels heavy and the opener is struggling. Why?
