What Clopay Makes
Clopay is the largest maker of overhead doors in North America and has been the best selling garage door brand in the country for decades. Its residential lines include Classic Steel, Modern Steel, and Bridgeport.
Clopay's insulation is a polyurethane foam it calls Intellicore. It is injected into the door and expands to fill the section, rather than being a slab of foam board set inside a steel shell. The company rates some of those doors above R-20.
Why an Insulated Door Is Worth More Here Than Almost Anywhere
In Las Vegas the garage is usually the hottest room in the house, and for a lot of homes it shares a wall with a bedroom and holds the laundry, the water heater, or a freezer.
A filled polyurethane door does two things a hollow pan door cannot. It slows the heat, which keeps the garage usable in August and takes load off the air conditioner on the other side of that wall. It also stiffens the panel, so the door flexes less and the hardware wears slower.
The quieter operation is the part people notice first. A dense filled section carries much less of the rattle a hollow one does, which matters when there is a bedroom over the garage.

Is an insulated garage door worth it in Las Vegas?
If the garage is attached, shares a wall with a living space, or holds anything you care about, yes. It keeps the space usable in summer and takes load off the air conditioning. If it is a detached garage you only park in, the case is much weaker and we will say so.
What does the R value actually mean?
It measures how well the door resists heat moving through it. Higher is better. A hollow pan door is close to nothing. A filled polyurethane door can be rated above R-20.
Can you repair a Clopay door you did not install?
Yes. Most of our door repairs are on doors that came with the house.
