What Genie Makes
Genie started in 1923 as the Alliance Manufacturing Company in Ohio and built the first mass produced radio controlled garage door opener in 1954. In 1958 it introduced the first direct drive screw opener, which is still the unit a lot of people picture when they hear the name.
Overhead Door Corporation bought Genie in 1994. The brand sells through both professional dealers and retail, so Valley homes have every generation of it.
Screw Drive Openers and Las Vegas Heat
Genie screw drive units are all over the homes built here in the eighties and nineties, and they have one maintenance need most owners never hear about. The screw rail carries a special grease. In our summers the wrong grease, or no grease, turns to varnish and the carriage starts to bind.
A screw drive that groans, moves in steps, or stalls partway is very often a rail that needs cleaning and the correct lubricant, not a new opener. We carry it.
